Anybody presently or formerly associated with the University of Illinois needs to own some item of Fighting Illini clothing or gear. At least a key chain. Ideally a selection of Fighting Illini sportswear. Some no doubt pride themselves on having a closet jam-packed of ye orange and blue. I could say, certainly, my wardrobe is and I hold this paraphernalia cleanest at all times.
Indeed, supplementary clothes will descend into your existence, henceforth it’s not at all similar as those college colours. I possibly could yet call up long forgotten buddies of back there, every now and then, to hurl a ball about in my full-length yard. Another item I gotta get through, simply you acknowledge the University of Illinois alumni yet cling together after all the years.
For many of us who stayed in the midwest, hoodies are the same as a weekend uniform throughout the fall days. I maintain a couple friends who however bear their Fighting Illini t-shirts and sweats everytime I visit them. My comrade, the Fighting Muel, Samuel married his Illinois truelove and there’s a conundrum there for all of us – how to switch from the end of childhood into the initiation of maturity. And be positive.
That comes with risks though. The same as being one of those couples that wears co-ordinated baseball caps. He wears a blue cap on orange bill; she wears the orange cap with blue bill. It’s something you become used to. Geekiness is sometimes the cost of contentment.
But by running around town everyone starts to blur anyways. The logo gets a bit haggard out, but the past privileged tales are as comical as the day they happened. Either way, I enjoy if we win, and if I’m performing I universally end up humiliated by my biggest comrade who gets a kick out of stretching my fave t-shirt.
Generally that’s how it goes, ending up in the pasture with my muddy Fighting Illini activewear, remembering the days back when. Of course my gear gets beaten up while it unremittingly seems to get cleaned up better then the rest of my habiliment. At least for a while till we do it again.
