loft-y goals

May 15th, 2008

since stephen and i have moved into our loft, we’ve been doing some “home improvements” here and there. when you live in a place that has mostly brick walls, hanging pictures becomes a huge task. one of the biggest things we needed to do was re-do the closet. i love everything about our place, but the closet was a disaster. it is small, and was equipped with a crappy rack that barely could hold half of my clothes, much less mine and stephen’s together! so for the past month we’ve been dealing with clothes and shoes everywhere while stephen designed a new closet contraption. well, it’s finished!! and i love it, our new closet kicks our old closet’s ass.

old closet (you can imagine the frustration, right?)

the main thing was, there was only that one rack, and the actual closet is fairly large for being a sliding-door closet, and the ceilings in there are 10 feet! so stephen found a way to utilize virtually every inch of that space.

see here how he created two levels of rails for hanging, and there is a storage shelf on top of that.closet_top

the bottom has two rows of four wire baskets/drawers (from ikea) and then a section for the laundry basket. closet leftcloset right

and yes, stephen made this whole thing - our bathroom was covered in sawdust from him sawing everything in the tub…don’t worry, he cleaned it up.

so there you have it! we officially have a working closet. now all i need to do is get all my clothes put away…grr. also, i’m in the market for a step-ladder…so let me know if you know anything about that!

nice! we immediately took off the closet doors when we moved into our new place, i hate those sliding doors! i am planning to make some fabric curtains, but for now its an incentive to keep things tidy…. which might work if i was fully unpacked…
