smashin’ fashion

August 27th, 2008

last thursday, danielle, who miraculously gets invited to every event in the dallas area, brought me along to enjoy two wonderful fashion shows! she is getting married next june, so first up was the vera wang bridal show at highland park village.  there were beautiful flower arrangements and delicious champagne cocktails, not to mention stunning vera wang gowns. i think this was my favorite:

we then cruised over to the crescent to watch the stanley korshak fall/winter preview runway show.  it was fantastic! i loved both the men’s and women’s collection, but my favorite was this little black dress that was to die for: it was a mini-dress with spaghetti straps and beads/sparkley goodness all over.  i cannot find it anywhere online or else i’d post it. it was pretty dark and hard to get a good photo, but i will share this fabulous photo of danielle and lauren enjoying the korshak signature blue cocktails.  i don’t know what they were, but they were delicious!

it was a successfull evening of fun and fashion for my first runway shows!

record store day tomorrow!!

April 18th, 2008

record store day logo

that’s right! record store day is happening tomorrow - saturday, april 19th. as i’ve mentioned before, record store day celebrates your local independent record stores: their culture, place in our communities, artists and most importantly, music.

for a list of all of the participating record stores (nationally) go here.

if you’re in the dallas area, good records is putting on a great party that will celebrate record store day and their 8th birthday!! they will be having live music from 11 am till midnight including red monroe and the black angels! here is a complete list of all of the artists collaborating for this joyous event. word around the campfire is that there will be beer and food, and as always, you can find your favorite new album there - i’m not going to tell you what it is, you’ll have to figure that out yourself.

so come out if you’re around and celebrate records, music, artists, and independence in the industry (or what is left). stop downloading music for a few hours and remember the rush of picking out that album, holding it in your hands, seeing the beautiful artwork, and feeling the live music running through your veins.

“Yes, yes, I know. It’s easier to download music, and probably cheaper. But what’s playing on your favourite download store when you walk into it? Nothing, that’s what. Who are you going to meet in there? Nobody. Where are the notice boards offering flatshares and vacant slots in bands destined for superstardom? Who’s going to tell you to stop listening to that and start listening to this? Go ahead and save yourself a couple of quid. The saving will cost you a career, a set of cool friends, musical taste and, eventually, your soul. Record stores can’t save your life. But they can give you a better one.” - Nick Hornby, Author, High Fidelity, Slam, and others…

see y’all there!
