hot chip

from good records:

“Hot Chip, The Palladium, and Good Records want you to help the victims of Hurricane Ike by bringing in a canned food item for the North Texas Food Bank. Bring in a canned good item and buy ANY CD and we will hook you up with a ticket to the Hot Chip show on Thursday September 25th at the Palladium. Hurry while supplies last.”

the offer is good on vinyl too, if that’s your thing. plus, hot chip is an amazing band to see live. enjoy!

four music festivals in downtown dallas!

September 9th, 2008

that’s right! not one, but FOUR music festivals will be held this fall in the heart of downtown dallasthe granada theater has put together these festivals with new, alluring rock bands; or as granada calls them “some of the most relevant rock bands of today.” and that’s not even the best part! the shows are free if you come before 5 pm!! otherwise, tickets are $10 in advance or $15 at the gates. main street live flyer

my favorite on the list has got to be louis xiv - their performance at lollapalooza was great and i can’t wait to see them again. if you’re not familiar with some of the bands, click in the flyer to go to the site, you can click on each band name to hear their music.  this is so exciting for the downtown community, and really for dallas as a whole.  come out and support local music ventures and your downtown community!! i hope to see you there.

September 8th, 2008

roxy and i took a little walk this weekend to the farmer’s market and picked up lots of goodies! some of my favorites:

blueberries

strawberries

squash/zucchini

and i just had to share this gigantic mango i found!! and at $1.50, it was a steal. i took a photo of it next to the ipod just to express how big it is…

i noticed and abundance of new potatoes, mushrooms and green beans  so i got some of those as well. for dinner, i pan fried the new potatoes and roasted fresh green beans with grape tomatoes, all covered with pepperjack cheese:

nothing like some fried pie!!

September 3rd, 2008

on sunday, stephen and i decided to head up to norman, ok to visit his brother nick, who just started at the university of oklahoma.  it was really a whirl-wind trip! we had a great time visiting, seeing friends and admiring the campus. but the fun didn’t really start until we made it to turner falls on our way home. we really wanted to go see the view at the falls, and upon exiting we see this:

fried pie sign

now, i don’t know what kind of person you are, but that sort of thing catches my attention.  so we head over to the falls to catch the view and ooh and ahh…

turner falls

after which i say “so how about that pie?!” of course the place was packed…it was almost like a scene out of preparation for a state fair or something. stephen decided on the peach fried pie, i got the blackberry one and we both enjoyed some vanilla custard.

the pies and custard were incredibly delicious…a guilty pleasure, if you will. so next time you’re driving on 35 stop in davis, okla., and be sure to catch the view at turner falls and enjoy some fried pie.  and if you make it just a little north of davis, please, please stop in pauls valley to see the toy & action figure museum.  we wanted to, but it was closed!
