sorry for the delay in posting, but my internet is down at home so i have to find time before work to post…so here goes!
i made it out to taste addison with a few friends on friday. ran into the beautiful nicole who made sure that we got the extra special treatment in vip…nice to have great friends in good places! it was a really nice vibe; lots of people, delicious food, and good music. i surprisingly liked switchfoot a lot…even though it’s not really my thing, the band was really energetic and put on a good show. i’m sure gavin degraw did a good job, but we left mid-set cause i was so tired (lame, i know).

what’s a festival without a turkey leg?!

around town this weekend
there is a lot going on this weekend but here are the two things i definitely will be going to…
tonight taste addison begins - a weekend filled with fun, food and music!! tonight gavin degraw and switchfoot are playing and tomorrow it’s the black crowes! the participating restaurants include texas de brazil, the melting pot, truluck’s, two rows and blue goose cantina. hopefully i will see you there, cause we’re gonna have a large time! taste runs from 5pm today till 6pm on sunday.
also this weekend is the 5th annual bishop arts district block party, car show, and urban bazaar. the block party is tomorrow (saturday) from 9:30 am - 8 pm and will have everything from food to clothes to live music and prizes! definitely something to check out!
so i hope you’ll check out one of these fun things and maybe i’ll see you around town!

last night my friend jennifer and i went to the city tavern right down the street from my place. it was a very fun night… taylor davis and his band were playing (as i believe they do every thursday), and i somehow mustered up the courage to ask if i could sing a song with them. taylor said definitely and asked what i wanted to sing - immediately i say janis, since that’s usually what i can do the best, but he didn’t go for it so i went with my immediate second fave ryan adams. he said “yeah! how about ‘come pick me up’?” to which i said “uh yeah!! only my favorite song of his!” they were on a break so he said he’d call me up there when they started up again. i thought for sure that he was just humoring me and probably waiting for me to forget or leave. but no, he sure did ask me to come up and sing with him. i was nervous and to tell you the truth, i don’t know if i’m any good. i just love to sing…i’m no aretha, or even janis for that matter.
at any rate, it was a good time. i didn’t get boo’d off stage so i take that as a plus. there was also a guy filming for the band so it’s a possibility that you all may be treated to the real thing. stay tuned…
ps. we had the nachos and they were delicious!

to touch on the blog i wrote yesterday…i read this story this morning on the houston chronicle’s website about 3 guys who dug up a boy’s corpse, severed the head, and used the skull as a bong to smoke pot. seriously, who the hell does something like that?!?! that is sick sick sick. ugh. read the whole story here.

stephen and i moved in to our new place just over a month ago. i haven’t had the cable turned on, basically because we don’t really watch tv that much and the peace and relaxation is kind of nice. i haven’t really missed it much, and when i need my tv fix i go down to the fitness center in my building and watch whatever is on - plus it’s motivation to actually go work out!
so i turned on my computer at work this morning and wanted to see what was going on in the news. i’ve heard in passing about the myanmar tragedy and random things about the ongoing battle for the white house. but i really wanted to see what was going on here in dallas - i like keeping abreast of current events in my community. nearly everything i read was about murder, child neglect or abuse, increase in drug overdoses, homelessness due to addiction or domestic abuse, and even a story about a high school having to create a committee to ensure a safer prom. it makes me sick to my stomach. here are just a few of the headlines:
Teen’s body found in Dallas ditch
Vagrants rob dead biker after police leave accident scene
Probationer charged in death of Dallas man who had turned own life around
‘Cheese’ heroin likely to blame in death of Dallas teen
Dallas taxi driver agrees to plea deal in driver’s licenses scam
2 Dallas shootings leave 4 dead; drugs suspected
2 children found in home with piles of trash, feces
now these were just in dallas proper, but don’t think for a second that if you’re in the ‘burbs you’re far from it - there were plenty of headlines for surrounding areas that were just as bad if not worse. i know it’s not new, i know it might not be shocking to anyone else, but it just makes me so sad. i know peace is far-fetched and unrealistic in most places, but is it crazy for me to hope? i’ll hold on to that hope, and keep imagining that one day we’ll come out ok - against all odds. and to all of you rolling your eyes at my naivety, my wishful thinking, what kind of person are you if you don’t have these same thoughts? even if we know it’s not within reach, we should never lose that expectation of making our lives better.
“you may say i’m a dreamer, but i’m not the only one. i hope someday you’ll join us, and the world will be as one.” - john lennon

i see these guys on the corner of ervay and san jancinto (downtown dallas) at least 2-3 times a week. they’re handing out fliers or something…are they protesting? striking?? i have no idea. do you?
sorry it’s so blurry…moving vehicle, you know. (no, i’m not driving!)
anyway, just wanted to share in case anyone knows what this is about.

stephen and i went to our first ever rangers game last night! it was so much fun…while i’m an astros fan, i was glad to see the rangers actually win a game! plus, it was dollar dog night, and you can’t beat that!
my jalapeño dog … yum.
it was so exciting, because we were able to see the big grand slam by josh hamilton!
